This qualification provides terrorism protection awareness for staff working in, or supporting, venues, sites and organisations. It is designed to help learners contribute to organisational preparedness by understanding the terrorism threat context, recognising common attack methods, understanding the key requirements of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 at an awareness level, maintaining vigilance and reporting concerns appropriately, and understanding immediate response actions. It supports staff to play an effective “internal champion” role by providing timely observations and information to the responsible person and/or colleagues with more formal counter-terrorism and protective security responsibilities.
English Language
Learners should have, at a minimum, language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Ofqual Level 1 or an equivalent standard. If you are unsure whether you meet this requirement, please contact us.
When Should You Tell Us?
It is important that you inform us of any reasonable adjustment requirements as early as possible. This allows enough time for us to apply to the awarding organisation and obtain approval before your assessment takes place.
Important: To ensure sufficient time for approval, learners should submit reasonable adjustment requests and supporting evidence at least 5 weeks before their assessment date wherever possible.
What Evidence Will Be Required?
The awarding organisation requires evidence to support all reasonable adjustment requests. Depending on your circumstances, this may include the following:

Approval Process
All reasonable adjustment requests must be approved by the awarding organisation before they can be implemented. Applications are reviewed based on the evidence provided and the requirements of the qualification.
Please note that requests may be refused if they would compromise the validity of the assessment or create a health and safety risk.

The assessment method for this qualification is a multiple-choice examination.
As this qualification is regulated in England, the assessments are conducted in English. It is important that learners have reasonable abilities in the English language to have a fair opportunity to be successful.
Learners may wish to progress to the Level 3 Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness course, which FGH Training also deliver.
The Level 3 Award builds on awareness-level knowledge and supports learners to develop a deeper understanding of counter-terrorism risk, protective security and preparedness. It is designed to support those who have, or may support, more formal responsibilities in relation to terrorism protection, preparedness planning and protective security within their organisation.
This is the only qualification that has been developed with and endorsed by the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO).
The qualification is supported by comprehensive materials that enable learners to understand terrorism threats and how they can reduce their likelihood and impact to their venue, site or organisation.
However, this qualification does not ensure compliance with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (also known as Martyn’s Law). Compliance with the Act involves a range of factors and these cannot simply be achieved through completion of a qualification.
