Course Overview

This qualification provides terrorism protection awareness for staff working in, or supporting, venues, sites and organisations. It is designed to help learners contribute to organisational preparedness by understanding the terrorism threat context, recognising common attack methods, understanding the key requirements of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 at an awareness level, maintaining vigilance and reporting concerns appropriately, and understanding immediate response actions. It supports staff to play an effective “internal champion” role by providing timely observations and information to the responsible person and/or colleagues with more formal counter-terrorism and protective security responsibilities.

All pricing is inclusive of VAT. For training outside of our core delivery area (North West, Midlands and West Yorkshire), additional costs for travel and accommodation may apply

Enrolment Criteria

This qualification is recommended to learners aged 16 years and over.

There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification. However, centres must ensure that learners are able to complete this qualification, for example, through completing a skills scan to ensure they can work at the appropriate level.

When Should You Tell Us?

It is important that you inform us of any reasonable adjustment requirements as early as possible. This allows enough time for us to apply to the awarding organisation and obtain approval before your assessment takes place.

Important: To ensure sufficient time for approval, learners should submit reasonable adjustment requests and supporting evidence at least 5 weeks before their assessment date wherever possible.

What Evidence Will Be Required?

The awarding organisation requires evidence to support all reasonable adjustment requests. Depending on your circumstances, this may include the following:

  • A medical letter or report
  • Diagnostic assessment reports (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD, autism)
  • An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Evidence of support previously received in education, training, or the workplace
  • Other relevant professional documentation

Where possible, the adjustment requested should reflect the support you normally receive in learning, training, or work.

Approval Process

All reasonable adjustment requests must be approved by the awarding organisation before they can be implemented. Applications are reviewed based on the evidence provided and the requirements of the qualification.

Please note that requests may be refused if they would compromise the validity of the assessment or create a health and safety risk.

If you believe you may require a reasonable adjustment, please contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss your needs and guide you through the application process.

To be awarded this qualification the learner must achieve 1 mandatory unit:

  • Counter-Terrorism Protective Security Awareness

Learners will:

  • Understand terrorism threats and common attack methods relevant to venues, sites and organisations
  • Understand the scope and intent of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 and how it applies to premises and events
  • Understand vigilance and reporting to support protective security at venues, sites and organisations
  • Understand immediate response principles and site procedures for terrorism-related incidents and emergencies

The multiple-choice examination is set by SFJ Awards and delivered by approved centres in examination conditions. The test consists of 25 questions and has a pass mark of 80%. Learners will have 40 minutes to complete the assessment.

As this qualification is regulated in England, the assessments are conducted in English. It is important that learners have reasonable abilities in the English language to have a fair opportunity to be successful.

Counter-Terrorism Protective Security Awareness FAQs

Who is this course suitable for?

The course is suitable for employees working in public-facing venues, hospitality, retail, events, security, facilities, healthcare and other accessible premises.

No. There are no formal entry requirements, making FGH Training’s Level 2 CTPSA course accessible to learners new to protective security.

No single course can make an organisation fully compliant with Martyn’s Law. Compliance depends on understanding which duties apply to your premises or event and implementing proportionate procedures, responsibilities and protective measures.

FGH Training’s SFJ Awards Level 2 course supports this process by giving employees the awareness needed to recognise threats, report concerns and respond appropriately. It should form part of a wider approach that includes site-specific planning, staff instructions, emergency procedures, regular reviews and, where appropriate, additional protective security measures. Government guidance confirms that requirements vary according to the premises or event.

Learners may wish to progress to the Level 3 Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness course, which FGH Training also delivers.

The Level 3 Award builds on awareness-level knowledge and supports learners to develop a deeper understanding of counter-terrorism risk, protective security and preparedness. It is designed to support those who have, or may support, more formal responsibilities in relation to terrorism protection, preparedness planning and protective security within their organisation.

Yes. Level 2 is designed to build awareness across your wider workforce, while Level 3 is better suited to employees with responsibility for safety, security or organisational preparedness. This may include security managers, venue managers, event managers, facilities managers and those involved in emergency planning.

FGH Training’s SFJ Awards Level 3 course develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to assess threats and vulnerabilities, consider suitable mitigation measures and create counter-terrorism risk assessments and preparedness plans. FGH Training can help you identify the right combination of Level 2 and Level 3 training for your team.
