Working at Height FAQs

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is suitable for employees who work, or may be required to work, at height. This includes people working in construction, maintenance, installation, facilities management, warehousing, manufacturing, agriculture, forestry and similar operational environments.

Learners will develop an understanding of working-at-height legislation, workplace responsibilities and safer working practices. The course also covers risk assessments, falling objects, fragile surfaces, weather conditions, rescue planning, equipment requirements and the reporting of defects.

This qualification helps organisations improve working-at-height awareness and promote a more consistent approach to planning and controlling higher-risk tasks. It can support safer equipment use, clearer employee responsibilities and your wider arrangements for reducing workplace falls.

Falls from height remain one of the leading causes of workplace fatalities and serious injuries. Effective training helps employees recognise the risks, understand the required precautions and make safer decisions before and during work at height.

Work at height includes any task where someone could fall from one level to another and suffer an injury. This can include working on ladders, platforms, roofs or raised surfaces, as well as working near openings, fragile surfaces or holes in the ground.

The law does not require employees to hold one specific working-at-height certificate. However, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require work to be properly planned, supervised and completed by people with the necessary knowledge, skills and experience.

This qualification provides essential awareness of working-at-height risks and equipment requirements. It does not replace any practical, equipment-specific or task-specific training required to use ladders, scaffolding, mobile elevating work platforms or fall-protection equipment safely.

Yes. The Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Working at Height is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification within the Regulated Qualifications Framework.
