Course Overview

This 1-day course allows holders of the qualification to apply for a personal licence under the Licensing Act 2003 (England and Wales), which allows the holder to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol on licensed premises.

Successful candidates will gain an understanding of the application process for a personal licence, the legal duties of a personal licence holder and the role, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities.

The Qualsafe Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification. It has been specifically designed for those who want to work in, or are looking to advance their career in the licensed retail sector, such as in a retail, bar, restaurant or pub setting.

All pricing is inclusive of VAT. For training outside of our core delivery area (North West, Midlands and West Yorkshire), additional costs for travel and accommodation may apply.

Enrolment Criteria

Age Requirements 

Learners must be at least 18 years old.

English Language

Learners should have, at a minimum, language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Ofqual Level 1 or an equivalent standard. If you are unsure whether you meet this requirement, please contact us.

The Qualsafe Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (RQF) has 1 unit that learners are required to complete in order to achieve the qualification:
Legal and Social Responsibilities of a Personal Licence Holder.

Learners will:

  • Know the nature, purpose and period of validity of a personal licence
  • Understand the application process and legal duties when applying for a personal licence
  • Understand the legal duties of a personal licence holder
  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities
  • Understand the Licensing Objectives and the importance of partnerships in promoting these objectives
  • Understand the nature and strength of alcohol and the effect on the body
  • Understand the law in relation to premises licences
  • Know the role and responsibilities of the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)
  • Understand the law in relation to Temporary Event Notices (TEN)
  • Understand the rights and legal duties of the responsible persons in relation to operation of licensed premises
  • Know the law in relation to the protection of children on licensed premises
  • Understand the powers of the police and other authorities in relation to licensed premises
  • Understand prohibitions and exemptions in relation to licensable activities

Learners will be assessed through a theory assessment (multiple choice question paper).

Successful learners will receive a personalised Qualsafe Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (RQF) e-Certificate once moderation has been completed by Qualsafe Awards.

Who is the course aimed at?

The Award for Personal Licence Holders is essential for those wishing to apply for a personal licence under the Licensing Act 2003 in England and Wales. Through FGH Training, learners will understand the legal duties linked to the sale of alcohol and the responsibilities that come with holding a personal licence.

We can accommodate up to 12 learners on hospitality courses delivered at our classrooms.

If you have a larger group and a venue that can comfortably accommodate more than 12 learners, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Groups of more than 12 will require a tailored quote. Depending on the course and awarding-body requirements, we may recommend an additional trainer or delivery across multiple sessions.
