This qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse.
They will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.
Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals, but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.
All pricing is inclusive of VAT. For training outside of our core delivery area (North West, Midlands and West Yorkshire), additional costs for travel and accommodation may apply.
English Language
Learners should have, at a minimum, language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening at Ofqual Level 1 or an equivalent standard. If you are unsure whether you meet this requirement, please contact us.
The qualification is assessed by a written assessment and practical demonstration of the first aid action plan for
mental health. The learner must pass both assessments to be awarded the qualification.
Successful learners completing this qualification will become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ and be able to utilise the skills and knowledge gained within their workplace and private life.
This course is on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
First Aid for Mental Health is important because it helps learners recognise common mental health conditions, start supportive conversations, and understand when and how to guide someone towards appropriate professional help. FGH Training delivers this course to help people feel more confident dealing with mental health concerns in a practical, supportive, and responsible way.
This course is suitable for people who want to build their awareness of mental health and feel more confident supporting others in the workplace or everyday life. FGH Training delivers it for organisations and individuals who want a better understanding of how to spot possible signs of poor mental health, respond appropriately, and encourage people to get the right support.
Learners will gain the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, understand the impact of stress and substance abuse, and use the first aid action plan for mental health. Through FGH Training, they will also learn how to support a more positive mental health culture in the workplace while staying within the boundaries of the role.
This course is useful because it helps organisations improve awareness of mental health and gives people a clearer idea of how to respond when someone may be struggling. FGH Training provides this qualification as a practical way to support a healthier workplace culture, encourage early conversations, and help people understand when signposting to professional help is needed.
This course does not qualify learners to diagnose or treat mental health conditions, as that can only be done by healthcare professionals. FGH Training makes this clear from the outset, so learners understand that their role is to recognise possible concerns, offer initial support, and help point the person towards appropriate help rather than try to act as a clinician.
