First Aid at Work Annual Refresher FAQs

Who should attend First Aid at Work Annual Refresher training?

This course is designed for those who have already completed First Aid at Work training. It is not designed for employees who have never completed workplace first aid training.

Annual refresher training is not a legal requirement. However, the Health and Safety Executive recommends that workplace first aiders refresh their skills each year during the three-year certification period.

First aid skills can fade when they are not regularly used. Annual refresher training gives employees an opportunity to practise essential procedures, correct any gaps in their technique and rebuild their confidence before they are faced with a genuine emergency.

It also helps organisations maintain more effective first aid provision between full qualification renewals.

No. This course does not renew or extend the expiry date of an existing First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.

Employees must still complete the appropriate requalification training before their original certificate expires.

Annual refresher training is a short course designed to maintain essential skills during the three-year certification period.

Requalification training renews an expiring qualification. First Aid at Work learners normally complete the dedicated requalification course, while Emergency First Aid at Work learners must retake the full one-day EFAW course.

The annual refresher course cannot restore an expired First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificate. If a learner’s qualification has expired, FGH Training can recommend the correct course based on the qualification previously held and its expiry date.

Yes. FGH Training can deliver a private First Aid at Work Annual Refresher course at your workplace or another venue that can suitably host the practical training and assessments. Alternatively, training can be arranged at one of our classrooms.
